Craigslist posting fees in 2026, section by section

Craigslist's own posting fees page is short: a list of the sections that cost money and a range for each. It's accurate and it's nearly useless for planning, because two of the ranges — gigs and jobs — span a factor of seven or more depending on the city, and the exact number only appears at the very end of the posting flow.

"Everything else" covers most of for sale by owner, most of housing outside the three big rental markets, all of community, and personals-style categories that no longer exist. If you're a private party selling a bicycle, Craigslist is still free. If you're a business posting anything with a commercial angle, it almost certainly isn't.

Gigs: $3 to $10, by metro

Jobs is the expensive one, and the widest spread. Craigslist doesn't publish a per-city list; the figures below come from a published per-city compilation cross-checked against what posters report at checkout, and our team confirms them city by city as we post.

If you're hiring in ten cities, the same job post can cost anywhere from $100 to $450 in Craigslist fees alone. That's the number that surprises people.

Why every blog post about this is wrong

Three reasons:

Craigslist changes fees without announcing it. The gigs fee didn't exist a few years ago. Services went from free to $5. Rental fees were added to Boston and Chicago after New York. Any article older than a year is suspect, including the one you're reading — which is why we date it.
The per-city numbers aren't published anywhere official. Everyone's list is somebody's compilation.
The fee is shown at the end of the flow. Most people quoting fees have posted in two or three cities and are extrapolating.
